This triptych examines the threefold burden borne by rural Chinese women—Labor, Marriage, and Fertility—centering Labor as the unifying thread. It pairs the lingering constraints of older social expectation with the shifting demands of new public policy. The younger generation is navigating a world still shaped by their “predecessors”. Materials drawn from rural women's daily life—wood frames, dyed cloth, yarn, and transfer printing—foster a tangible connection between the artwork and their material lives.
